Canceling and deleting sound similar, but they do very different things.

  • Cancel = stop future billing, keep your account + data.
  • Delete = permanently remove your account and everything in it.

This page explains both, so you can choose the option that matches your intent (and not accidentally hit the nuclear button when you only wanted to stop billing).

In this guide

  • Cancel vs delete: what’s the difference
  • How to cancel your subscription
  • How to delete your account

  • Data retention details

Cancel vs delete (what’s the difference?)

Canceling your subscription

Canceling means:

  • stops future billing
  • you keep full access until the end of your paid period
  • your account and data remain intact
  • you can resubscribe later without losing anything

This is the right option if you might come back.

Deleting your account

Deleting means:

  • permanently removes your account
  • deletes all data associated with your account immediately
  • cannot be undone
  • you’ll need to create a new account if you return
  • your previous data will be gone

If you’re unsure, canceling is safer.

How to cancel your subscription

Kyōfolio uses Stripe for billing.

Steps to cancel

  1. Go to Profile → Subscription
  2. Click Manage subscription
  3. In Stripe, choose Cancel subscription
  4. Confirm the cancellation

Stripe will send the cancellation confirmation email.

After you cancel

  • Your subscription stays active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
  • You won’t be charged again unless you resubscribe.
  • Your data stays in your account.

When your paid period ends, your access becomes limited:

  • you can still log in
  • you’ll see a paywall
  • you can still access your Profile
  • you will not be able to view tasks/projects until you resubscribe (unless you delete your account)

How to delete your account

Deleting your account is permanent and immediate. Please read this section slowly. 😅

Steps to delete

  1. Go to Profile → Delete Account
  2. Confirm you understand deletion is permanent
  3. Type DELETE to confirm

That’s it. Once deleted, the account cannot be recovered.

What deletion does

When you delete your account:

  • your account is removed immediately
  • all data associated with your account is deleted immediately (tasks, projects, notes, plans, rhythms, calendar connections, etc.)
  • any active subscription is canceled

Kyōfolio does not send an account deletion email.

What happens to your data

If you cancel

  • Your data stays in your account.
  • You keep access until the end of your paid period.
  • After the paid period ends, you can still log in and access Profile, but the rest of the app is paywalled.
  • If you resubscribe (without deleting your account), you regain access and your data will be exactly where you left it.

If you delete

  • Your data is deleted immediately and cannot be recovered.
  • You can’t “undo” deletion.
  • If you come back later, you’ll need to create a new account and start fresh.

Data retention (plain English)

  • Account deletion removes your live data immediately.
  • Kyōfolio runs on managed infrastructure with standard daily backups.
  • Deleted data may exist in backups for up to 7 days, after which it ages out of backup retention.

Billing records:

  • Kyōfolio does not retain billing data in your Kyōfolio account after deletion.
  • Billing records are maintained by Stripe as part of payment processing.

Refunds

  • Canceling stops future billing, but does not refund time remaining in the current paid period.
  • Kyōfolio does not offer refunds for mid-period cancellations.

For duplicate/incorrect charges or accidental renewals:

Common questions

Can I reactivate after canceling?

Yes—if you didn’t delete your account, you can resubscribe and pick up where you left off.

How long is my data kept after canceling?

Your data remains in your account unless you delete it. If your subscription ends, your access is paywalled until you resubscribe.

Can I recover my data after deleting?

No. Deletion is permanent.

What if I change my mind after deleting?

You can create a new account, but your previous data is gone.

Do I get a refund if I cancel mid-period?

No. Your access continues until the end of your paid period, and you won’t be charged again.
